January Monthly Meeting A New Decade for Patriots
January 15, 2010
The Sacramento Chapter hosted its first general membership meeting of the 2010 calendar year at the Buggy Whip Restauraunt on January 15, 2010.
Vince Gantt, Sacramento Chapter Vice President, gave a presentation on his collection of genuine period muzzle loaders. He started with a matchlock (replica), the
weapon used from the first settlements in the 1600s and into the start of the American Revolution. He showed how the matchlock was converted
into a flintlock. Some of the genuine weapons in his collection included Brown Bess and Charlieville Muskets, Hessian Jager rifles, a French
Fusille de Fine circa 1710, and Kentucky long rifles as well as a few pistols and bayonets. He also showed some muskets and rifles that had
been converted from flintlocks to percussion caps and discussed some of the reasons that they were made in the various calibers and lengths.
